Intro
The Hannibal Challenge is an attempt to retrace the footsteps of Hannibal and his band of 40 not so merry elephants as they crossed the Alps for their attack on Rome.
Hannibal had to move his army over the Pyrenees Mountains, and then over the Alps before striking at the Romans. He lost about three-quarters of his army in the process. It would be a challenge even for a modern army today.
This trek takes you some of the best scenery in Europe crossing two high alpine passes and experiencing three distinct cultures. If you enjoy a historic challenge, in a great environment, then read on...

Typical Itinerary
We normally run this trip over a weekend, Friday to Monday, however if you would like to do this at any other time then please contact us.
You will meet your guide who will be a qualified mountain leader when you arrive at your accommodation. At this time they will go through the planned route and carry out an equipment check to ensure you have everything you need to enable you to enjoy the following days.
| Day | Activity |
| Friday | Fly to Geneva and transfer to hotel accommodation. Evening briefing, route planning and equipment check. |
| Saturday | The first day's walking with an overnight at an Italian mountain hut at 1750m altitude. The hut gives us fantastic views on to the south side of the Mont Blanc range. |
| Sunday | Crossing into Switzerland through the second high pass and from there we transfer to Chamonix at the foot of Mont Blanc. That evening you can justifiably have a celebration dinner. |
| Monday | Transfer back to Geneva Airport from Chamonix. |
Please note: This itinerary is a guide only. It can be subject to change dependent upon viability, course members' fitness, weather conditions or for any other reason the guide may deem necessary.
