Intro

Challengingskills icon

This course is for those with some climbing experience who may be looking to discover longer mountain routes, in majestic settings.

We aim to tailor the course to each individual's goals: whether you wish to enjoy the adventure of climbing in the mountains as Seconds (ascending behind a lead climber), or whether you wish to learn how to lead multi-pitch climbs for yourself.

The course can take place in a variety of locations, including Cornwall, Pembrokeshire, the Gower Peninsula, Peak District, North Wales, Lakes and Scotland, depending on time of year and instructor availability.

A typical tour itinerary may look like this:

Friday
Arrive at venue; meet with your instructor and then rest of your group.
Saturday Basic skills overview and safety briefing, further tuition on site.
Sunday Further training and practice of learned skills

Please note: This itinerary is a guide only. It can be subject to change dependent upon viability, course members' fitness, weather conditions or for any other reason the guide may deem necessary.

Course requirements

If you have very little previous experience of outdoor climbing, then you cannot take part in this course.

It is preferable that you have completed either the "Single Pitch Intro to Rock Climbing" offered by Maximum Adventure or the "Intro to Lead Climbing" course - in this way maximum benefit will be gained from the course. If you are uncertain if you are up to the necessary standard, then check out the topics covered by those courses on the website.

Be prepared for really active days with walking, carrying, general stretching and perhaps the odd period of bad weather. You are likely to find the course exhausting if you are not suitably fit.
