Introduction to Climbing

This course is designed for a broad spectrum of individuals, from those who have never climbed before, through to those have only ever climbed indoors. Particular emphasis will be placed on learning the correct safety techniques and how to use the relevant equipment correctly.

The intent of this 2 day course is to assess each participant's goals and then tailor their training to provide them with a stimulating and fun learning experience.

The course can take place in a variety of locations, including the South West, Kent, the Gower peninsula, the Peak District, Cumbria, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Northumberland and Scotland, depending on time of year and instructor availability.   • Location- throughout the UK - enquire about the location and the dates that you are interested in. We can run group trips from 2-3 people upwards and exclusive trips for you and your friends.

  • We provide all technical equipment apart from rock climbing shoes.
  • Experience - the course is designed for those who have no experience of climbing through to those who have been climbing indoors and now want to make the move outside.

Typical itinerary

We normally run this trip over the weekend, Friday night to Sunday, however if you would like to do this at any other time then please contact us.

You will meet your instructor when you arrive at your accommodation. At this time they will go through plans for the weekend and carry out an equipment check to ensure you have everything you need to enable you to enjoy the following days.

A typical tour itinerary may look like this:

Day Activity
Friday Arrive at the venue; meet with your instructor and the rest of your group.
Saturday Introductory session to familiarise you with the equipment to be used and how to do so correctly, with some climbing.
Sunday Further training with plenty of climbing.

Please note: This itinerary is a guide only. It can be subject to change dependent upon viability, course members' fitness, weather conditions or for any other reason the guide may deem necessary.

Course requirements

An ideal course for those with little or no experience of climbing but who are aiming to learn and progress further.

Be prepared for two active days with a lot of general stretching and perhaps using leg and arm muscles that would not ordinarily be exercised at an everyday gym session.

Price and Inclusions

  • Professional organisation of the event
  • Minimum qualifications of guides are single pitch award or a Mountain Instructor Award. Ratio of instructor to clients is a maximum of 1:6.
  • Briefings, instruction, route planning and equipment checks to make sure that you have everything you need.
  • Two nights' twin hotel accommodation with breakfast. Single rooms are available for a supplement.
  • Transfers from airports will be available for a supplement.
  • Use of all technical equipment including harnesses, ropes, protection equipment and hard hats, except climbing shoes.
  • Group first aid with qualified first aiders.
