Ski Week-Cortina d'Ampezzo

Introduction

Easyskills icon

The most magnificent mountain scenery in the entire Alps? That's saying something, and Cortina d' Ampezzo has it. Sited among the amazing granite spires of the Dolomites, Cortina is a unique destination. The resort has hosted World Cup downhill skiing for years, and is known as an uppercrust resort. It is a bustling town in its own right, and offers some of the most chic and fashionable shopping opportunities anywhere. The dining in town is exceptional.

As for the skiing: besides its World Cup run, it offers 140km of piste and over 50 lifts; gondolas go to mountains on each side from the town itself. Although the town itself not particularly high up, the snowmaking covers almost all the ski areas, and so snow reliability is good. It is one of the best areas for learning to ski, with a great choice of magnificently-sites progress too from the beginner slopes. For experts, the cable car to the Tofana at 2830m provides a spectacular and demanding adventure. Heli-skiing and snowboarding are likewise well served.

You are surrounded by history at Cortina. The resort is the site of the 1956 winter games, and you can still do the bobsleigh run. For the truly adventurous, there is the eighty-kilometer Great War Ski Tour, on site of the front lines in 1915 , which takes in the Armentarola slope and the Falzarego Pass.
